Leo
Leo comes from some of Europe's finest kennels! He also comes from a long list of champions including a world championship. He is a beautiful male Bernese Mountain dog. He is not as tall as Fabio, but has the same strong bone and a beautifully wide male head. He scored an astonishing "Excellent" for his hip/elbow rating, which is very rare, especially for this breed. His personality is the perfect standard for a Berner - he is neither shy nor aggressive. He is rather friendly, affectionate, loyal, and great with people and other animals. He is a wonderful male!

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Bernese Mountain dog the right dog for me?
Please read about BMD's on our website. There are many websites that discuss how to find the right breed for you.
What is the first step in adopting a Bernese Mountain dog puppy?
Please fill out an adoption form on our website and include as much detail as possible. This will help us determine if you are a suitable candidate for one of our Bernese Mountain dog puppies. It will also help us decide which Bernese Mountain dog puppy is a good match for you. If you have not heard from us within 3 days, please contact us with an email or phone call as sometimes an e-mail can go missing! Upon approval, we require a $200 non-refundable deposit to reserve your puppy.
How does the Bernese Mountain dog puppy selection process work?
We use the information that you have filled out on your adoption form, so please include lots of detail when telling us about your lifestyle, puppy preferences etc. At 6-7 weeks of age we temperament test each of the Bernese Mountain dog puppies and profile them. We then go back to the adoption forms to make the best matches for each person and puppy.
Is it possible to view the Bernese Mountain dog puppies?
We will either post pictures or email pictures to you at about 2 and 6 weeks of age. The Bernese Mountain dog puppies are unavailable for viewing in person. We keep them under quarantine until they receive their first set of vaccinations and are checked by our vet. This happens at 7-8 weeks of age. After they have received their vaccines they will start going to their new homes. When the Bernese Mountain dog puppies are young they are more susceptible to disease and are unable to overcome because their immune systems are not fully developed. There are many breeders who have suffered parvo, distemper, kennel cough and canine flu cases. We do not want to risk any of these diseases. However, you are more than welcome to come out and meet us and our family of adult Bernese Mountain dogs.
Does the Bernese Mountain dog puppy need to be spayed or neutered?
Yes, the Bernese Mountain dog puppy will need to be spayed or neutered by the age of 6 months. If you would like to show/breed we do make exceptions. We look at each case individually.
What does the Bernese Mountain dog puppy need to cross the border or fly?
Our vet will give the puppy a thorough health exam. He will then issue a health certificate for each Bernese Mountain dog puppy. This, along with our receipt of payment, is all the puppy needs to cross the border. If the puppy is flying to his new home, he will also get an International Health Certificate from the vet.
Do you keep in touch with the families that adopt your Bernese Mountain dog puppies?
We would love to keep in touch with all those families that adopt from us! We love getting updates on the dogs with recent pictures. In fact, we ask that you send pictures of your dog to us at 4 months, 8 months and 1 year old with weights and height. We can then let you know how your Bernese Mountain dog pup is doing in comparison to the rest of the litter. Also, if you ever have any questions we want you to feel free to email or phone us.
Does my Bernese Mountain dog puppy need pet health insurance?
We strongly recommend pet health insurance for your Bernese Mountain Dog puppies. There are many different insurance providers. Do some research to see which provider is best for you.
Do you have a contract and health guarantee?
Yes, we have a contract that we require to be filled out when you pick up your Bernese Mountain dog puppy. We want any potential owner of one of our Bernese Mountain Dogs to have a positive experience with the breed and our kennel. Therefore, we are committed to our dogs and stand behind our Bernese Mountain dog puppies. We guarantee that any puppy we sell will be in good health and will have received all relevant vaccines and deworming medication upon adoption. As well, the Bernese Mountain dog puppy will have a health certificate from a vet and will be microchipped. We also guarantee the health of the Bernese Mountain dog for up to 12 months of age for any congenital or hereditary conditions. Please contact us if you would like to view our guarantee and contract in full.

About Bernese Mountain Dogs
Bernese Mountain Dogs originate from Switzerland, with images found dating back to the 17th century. Written descriptions of Bernese Mountain dogs date back to the mid-19th century when they were used as herding dogs throughout the Alps. Later, they were also used for drafting (pulling carts) and were always regarded as a good watchdog.
The Bernese Mountain dog has become popular throughout many parts of the (modern) world. Due to their ever increasing popularity and over breeding from small gene pools, the breed has suffered many health problems and a shortened life span. The Bernese Mountain dog has become a favourite breed, not only for their work ethic and companionship, but also because they are an alert, affectionate, and good-natured dog. A Bernese Mountain dog is intelligent and appreciates responsibility. They have a strong genetic drive to please their family and love to be with their family in their daily activities. Bernese Mountain dogs are also extremely child friendly and interact well with seniors.
Another characteristic of Bernese Mountain dogs is that they are not highly energetic or intense, especially in comparison to a Lab or Retriever. They love long walks, but are not suited for endurance runs. It is also important to avoid intense exercise (especially in warm weather) because of their thick coat and the possibility of overheating. If you are looking for a highly energetic dog, then a Bernese Mountain dog will not be the right fit for you.
Today, Bernese Mountain dogs are not commonly used as work dogs, but instead are bred to be family pets. It should also be noted that Bernese Mountain dogs are not hunting dogs or guard dogs. They make great 'alarm' dogs (i.e. they will bark and let you know someone is approaching), but they will not attack. Instead, they will often greet visitors with some initial barking and then a wagging tail!
Bernese Mountain dogs are sensitive and should be trained firmly, but gently. Owners will run into issues with this dog if they do not display strong leadership towards the dog. Treating them like a baby or member of the family will lead to many problems as they grow up. People need to show that they are the Pack leader. Failure to do so can result in a different dog than described above. A Bernese Mountain dog needs to clearly understand the rules so that it can follow them and feel secure.
Bernese Mountain dogs can vary in weight. Their averages range from 80 to 120lbs. The males are generally a little bigger than the females. The main health problems that are seen in Bernese Mountain dogs are hip and elbow dysplasia, and cancer. Overexerting Bernese Mountain dogs in their growing years can lead to hip and elbow problems. Bernese Mountain dogs also gain weight easily because they are not highly active. Being over weight can lead to numerous health problems, so it is imperative not to overfeed. It is advisable to have a fenced yard for a Bernese Mountain dog to play in or to go on walks with them regularly (or both). Their coat will need to be brushed daily or weekly depending on the length and thickness of their coat. Extra brushing is necessary when shedding takes place.
Although, the Bernese Mountain dog is an intelligent dog and not a high-energy breed, training and regular exercise is vitally important. Therefore, we strongly recommend that all owners train their Bernese Mountain dog puppy through a community obedience program and walk them regularly as they grow up.

Trip to Belgium visiting the breeder and parents of Fabio.
It has been our honor and privilege to work with such a wonderful breed for many years!
We are a husband and wife team dedicated to breeding quality Bernese Mountain Dogs. We are committed to only breeding dogs that have excellent pedigrees and health records as well as exemplary temperaments. In fact, to meet our high standards, all of our Bernese Mountain dogs have been health tested and cleared for hip and elbow dysplasia along with numerous other clearances. We also focus on longevity and Berner type. You can view many of our health clearances and pedigrees on our website.
Some of the breeders we have adopted from have been breeding for over 20 years. We have spent much time, effort, and money researching our lineages. We purchase only the highest quality Bernese Mountain dogs and train them. Each of our new dogs has to pass a series of health screenings before we consider breeding them. We also like to show our dogs. We believe our Berners are some of the best outthere! Our lineages include World Champions, International Champions and some of their lineages have been traced back to some of the oldest Berners in Europe.
Our Bernese Mountain Dogs get plenty of socialization through interaction with family, friends, and ourselves on a daily basis. They particularly love to run around and play on our farm. Our dogs will often go with us when we run errands and vacation. They interact with many animals that live on our farm (cows, horses, goats, rabbits, doves, chickens, and cats). Our dogs do not live in concrete kennels!
We take great pride and enjoy raising Bernese Mountain dog puppies. This is a delight, but also a lot of hard work. We invest much time and energy into each one of our pups. All of our litters are raised in our house until the age of 3 – 4 weeks to provide the highest level of care for both mom and puppies. Once the moms do not have enough milk we introduce the puppies to fresh goat milk and when they are old enough they will receive Royal Canin large breed puppy food. After this time they are transferred to a heated playhouse where they have more room to grow, eat, sleep and play. We also have outside playpens where they romp around when the weather is nice. Here they can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of our farm which is important for their development. They can also meet some of the other animals on our farm.
We are located on a 16-acre farm in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. We welcome potential families to come out and visit our kennel. We are only 1 hour East of Vancouver, 3 hours North of Seattle, Washington, and 10 minutes from the Abbotsford Airport. If you are interested in visiting our kennel, please contact us to arrange a suitable time.

Hi there, thought you might enjoy a couple of photos of Abby (short for Abbotsford). She was born March 3, 2007 and her owners are Karin and Paul Robinson. She is the sweetest dog, loyal, affectionate and the love of our lives. This photo was taken August 29th, atop Fortune Peak, just south of Mt. Stuart in Washington. Thanks so much! Karin, Paul, Jake and Charlie.
Hello, Wow! Where has the time gone? We were so excited about last year at this time, and now Chance is a BIG DOG! Chance is doing very well - Recently weighing in at 105 lbs. Attached are some recent photo's of our Chance - who loves to be outside! Thank you again for matching us all up. We are one happy pack in the *loops*. All the best, Tessa, Wayne & Chance
Hi Gerhard, Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much we are enjoying Cleo! She is incredibly well-behaved for a puppy -- not sure if that is the breed or just her, but as long as we get her an hour or so of playtime or walking each day, she is very mellow and pleasant. She really enjoys training, too, and will do ANYTHING for small pieces of chicken or pork. She already knows come, sit, down, and touch, and she is really getting good at leash walking now (after quite a bit of practice indoors). She also has very few accidents indoors -- she clearly understood where to go to the bathroom within 48 hours. We were very impressed. Berners sure attract a lot of attention, though, which helps with her socialization. It seems like everyone needs to stop and admire the cute, fluffy puppy. Anyway, we just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful pet!! Regards,Dan and Stacey Rudin.
Hello there Gerhard and Sarah! It is Matt Boucard and Allison Gourley saying hello from Portland, Oregon. We picked up our dog Ed from your lovely farm a little over 4 yrs ago. We are happy to say that Ed is doing great, and is in fine health. He is just over 4 years old, and weighs about 117 - 120 lean lbs. We have enclosed a few pictures of him. And just simply wanted to say hello and give you a quick update on how he is doing. We hope your family is happy and healthy. Matt + Allison
In 2008, after waiting for what seemed like a long time, we were heading to Cascade Mountain Kennels to pick up our new pup - Gus aka-Gusto! It was a very pleasurable experience; Gerhard took the time to go overall we needed to know, and answer all of our questions. We were giventime to spend with Gus's parents Dyna and Fabio, who were bothabsolutely wonderful. After spending some time with them, it was clearthat our Gus was going to be a gem. Gus (now 2 years old) is full of loveand brings us much laughter.Graceful he is not which is part of his charm! He has bonded with the kidsand they adore him. He has a wonderful temperament, and is everything wecould ask for in a dog - A true gentle giant with somegoofiness thrown in there too! We are very thankful to Cascade Mountain Kennels for our Gusto! We love him! Deanna Brotherston
Hi Gerhard: Jasper is now 1.5 years old. There has been no issues with his health and he is a happy and easy-going boy. We enjoy him a lot and he is well liked in the neighborhood. The vet tells me he isn't overweight but has advised me to keep him where he is at right now. He likes to swim in the lake and he is awesome with any dog or person he meets. He goes for walks daily and often gets social times with other dogs. We are very pleased with him and he gets lots of attention from interested individuals wherever we go. I hope all is well with you! Frank.
I found my experience with Cascade Mountain Kennels very positive. Right off the get go they were responding to me emails and phone calls providing me with all the information I needed about owning my first Bernese Mountain Dog. I was also very impressed with how thorough they were about the health of the puppies. When we picked him up they were friendly and open and answered all of our questions with a deep knowledge of the Bernese mountain dog breed. You could see the love and respect they have for these animals. Since I have taken my dog home, a year and a half ago, they have been very helpful with any other questions I have had or concerns. When I choose to get my next Bernese I won't hesitate to go back through them again.Rachel and Keath
Our female Bernese Mountain Dog Maddie and male Ryder are both from Cascade Mountain kennels. They have been a wonderful addition to our family. They are very devoted to us and love to be by our side and always let us knowwhen someone or something is nearing our property. Cascade Mountain Kennelshave always been there to answer any questions for us and I would recommendthem to anyone considering a truly wonderful dog. Thanks, Linda.
Hi Gerhard and family, Here are some pictures of Timber! At his last vet appointment last week, he was 4 1/2 months old and 45lbs. He already knows all his basic commands and has such personality! He suits us perfectly :) He has all his shots and now loves going to the dog park as well as regular visits with my boss's 2 golden retrievers. He is a natural walker! The first time we put the leash on him, he just trotted beside us. Thanks again for this wonderful dog! Lisa and Jeremiah Funk
We saw an adorable Bernese Mountain Dog puppy on a ski trip a few years ago at Big White…..and fell instantly in love. We had to have our own so we purchased Lucy Mae from Cascade Mountain Kennels in the spring of 2009. She has been a fantastic dog! She is social, loyal, gentle and a wonderful family dog. We did our research on breeders and we would highly recommend this breed and Cascade Mountain Kennels. Gerhard was great to deal with, very helpful and our dog is healthy and happy! Suzanne and Shawn
It has been six years today since Wuffie has been born. Wuffie and I want you to know that we are still very happy with each other and that other then when I am at work we are pretty much in separable. Wuffie and I have a really large extended family and friends and she and I attend BBQ's and parties, Wuffie and I also enjoy our outings in the convertible and road trips down the coast. Wuffie has discovered that people love her no matter where we go or do, and that she may as well be a rock star as crowds gather when we are on outings. When asked about her I tell people about you and how to contact you if they are indeed interseted in adopting a fine companion such as Wuffie. I am enclosing a few recent pictures of Wuffie. Sincerely, LaVonne Sunde
